Oh, Happy Day!

Do you ever have those moments in life when all things finally come together and something finally clicks in your head? I remember sitting in front of photoshop when I first started my business and not understanding a thing and being terribly frustrated. Eventually with a lot of reading and experimenting with it one day it just clicked and I got it. That day was a happy day! It was like that for me with my camera too. I even took a photography class in college and never understood how my camera worked, but then one day it just clicked. But let me tell you those first few times I shot on 100% manual it was exhilarating to do it with my new found knowledge.
My favorite painter is Van Gogh and his work makes my heart sing. I loved him so much that when I was in college I painted a 4'x6' recreation of Starry Starry Night. However, to pull that type of creativity from my own head never seemed to work. So early in my photography career I tried different painting techniques to turn some images into paintings but none made my heart sing. I took a painting class early this year with Carole Foret in Athens to learn more about real painting. She is incredible and I learned so much in just one night. It really helped me understand what makes a painting really pop, but I still had the problem of digitally turning a photograph into a painting.
I have messed around with Painter in the past but that reminded me of my early days with Photoshop it was like learning greek. I never seemed to have the time to figure the program out. This past week I went to a class by Deb and Rick Ferro and she explained some basics about the program that finally clicked in my brain. And this time it really clicked! YEAH!!I So, on the plane ride home I feverishly worked on a recent photograph and turned it into a painting. It was the first one I have ever done that I LOVE. I love it so much I can't wait to do more. :)
This generational shot spans four generations. It will be printed on canvas and I can't wait to get it in the studio. I am so excited about it I had to share.
